We’ve all been there. You spend forty minutes filling out an application for the APSC or ADRE (SLRC), only to hit "Submit" and see that dreaded red error: "File size too large. Max size 50KB."
It’s easily the most frustrating part of applying for government jobs in Assam. Most phone photos are 3MB+, but these portals want them tiny. If you compress too much, it looks like a blurry mess. If you don't compress enough, it won't upload.
Here is the simple, no-nonsense way to get your photos and signatures ready in minutes.
The "Safe Zone" Size Chart (2026)
| Department | Document | Max Size |
|---|---|---|
| APSC | Photo / Sign | 50KB / 30KB |
| SLRC (Grade 3 & 4) | Photo / Sign | 35KB / 30KB |
| Assam Police | Photo / Sign | 450KB / 100KB |
Method 1: Using your Mobile (Easiest)
Don’t bother with screenshots; they usually don't lower the file size enough. Use a dedicated tool.
- Download: Search for "QReduce Lite" on the Play Store. It’s free and very small.
- Upload: Choose your passport photo from your gallery.
- Set Size: Type "40" in the KB box (for a 50KB limit) or "20" for signatures.
- Download: The app saves a compressed version automatically.
Method 2: Using MS Paint (For Laptop Users)
If you're on a PC, you already have the best tool installed.
- Right-click your photo > Open with Paint.
- Press Ctrl + W (Resize menu).
- Click Pixels and change the Horizontal number to 250.
- Go to File > Save As > JPEG. (Don't use PNG, it's too heavy).
Why is my upload still failing?
If the KB size is correct but it still won't upload, check these two things:
- The Filename: Does it have spaces? Rename it to
my_photo.jpg. - The Format: Make sure the extension is
.jpgor.jpeg. Portals hate.pdfor.webp.
Disclaimer: Always check the official notification PDF for the specific job you are applying for, as departments can change their rules at any time.
